On the 10th of Baisakh 2081 (April 22, 2024), a discussion program on the amendment of the child labor prevention law was organized by the National Child Protection Alliance (NCPA). The event was held to discuss the draft of the Child Labor Prohibition and Regulation Act 2080, prepared by the Government of Nepal, and to collect suggestions with a common view from civil society to submit to the drafting committee.
The Child Labor Act of Nepal, implemented to protect children from exploitation and ensure their right to a childhood free from labor, had committed to addressing the harsh realities faced by many children in our society, but this was not seen in practice. This program was organized to support addressing this challenge and to stand in solidarity with it, as it is the responsibility of all of us. Another objective of the program was to draw the attention of the provincial government to this matter.
The program was chaired by Gyan Bhakta Maharjan, the chairperson of the NCPA, and hosted by the Secretary of NCPA, Ms. Madhu Gurung. During the program, the draft act prepared by the Government of Nepal was presented by the General Secretary of NCPA Ms. Maniram Acharya, and at the end of the program, the conclusion was presented by the NCPA executive committee member, Manu Nepali.
