    Regional Workshop and Training 20 - 22 April, 2016.

Violence Against Children (VAC) is still an everyday harsh reality in Nepal. The social service professionals in most cases are the first ones to come into contact with the children who are victims of violence. Even though these cases are identified, the social workers are still not being able to properly report these cases to ensure appropriate response in terms of the issues identified. The National government bodies are also not capable of preventing the children from various forms of abuse. In order to understand the current level of national systems of response to the VAC cases, social workers must be aware of the proper procedures to monitoring and reporting systems. They should also have detailed knowledge on the state level policies and law passed by the government, in a systematic manner.  Without proper documentation and background knowledge these cases even when identified with proof may be left unjustified, hence the mechanism in following the proper procedures is a must have understanding.

The objectives of the training were:

    • Capacity building of Child Rights Activist and stakeholders in proper monitoring and reporting of issues relating to violence against children.
    • Bring awareness to the issues relating to Child abuse hidden in the community, and strengthen the accessibility of Child Rights Activists and related local agency.
    • Join forces with the state level child rights monitoring system; also facilitate in forming an agency. At the same time collaborate in establishment and operation of the monitoring methodology.

It was expected that training overall would make the case better for evidence based planning in monitoring and reporting process. At the end of the training the participants were expected to develop detailed knowledge on child protection system and series for coherent responses to violence against children, with a focus on understanding step by step and proper reporting methods.

The training gathered 26 participants from 20 different NGO'S working in the area of child protection from 7 districts, namely; Palpa, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Nawalparasi, Syangja, Gulmi and Argakhachi.

The training was conducted by Mr Chandrika Khatiwada.

    ................................................

Upon completion of the training, on the third day NCPA reginal workshop was held at the same venue. The participants of the training were introduced regarding NCPA, the idea of its formation and also the objectives of the Alliance. The training was attended by participants from various organizations working in the sector of child protection, hence NCPA called in for membership application to the organizations. Therefore during the workshop current president of NCPA Mr. Krishna Kumar Thapa, presented NCPA and also gave instructions regarding the process of membership application and the eligibility to be a member.
